Best budget gaming PCs: $800 to $1,500

Exact configurations, clear price limits, and the tradeoffs that decide whether a PC is worth your money. Start with your games and your complete budget.

By Value Over HypeResearch-based · no hands-on scoreOur testing standard
Offer prices rechecked · Oct. 25, 2026U.S. tower prices

Wait on these shipped shortlist offers at the checked prices. The ABS Flavonius G1A45N46R1 remains $1,199.99, above our $999.99 ceiling. The Cyclone C1A47N56T1 has risen to $1,599.99, $100 above its unchanged $1,499.99 ceiling. Best Buy’s Element has fallen to $1,299.99 but is still above our $1,200 limit. Do not stretch a budget just because another price changed.

The retailer pages displayed these prices and Add to cart on our October 25, 2026 check, before tax and shipping. Delivery, pickup and final availability require a fresh location-specific check; the Best Buy extraction included an outdated delivery date, so we do not repeat it. The Flux redirect correction from October 20 remains in place. These are page snapshots, not cart-verified live quotes. We have not tested these PCs; buy/wait/skip decisions describe fit and price, not a 100-point Value Score.

Plan before you shop

What can you actually spend on the tower?

Set aside the costs around the PC first. These example amounts are editable planning numbers, not product quotes or a tax calculation.

The shortlist

The answer in 30 seconds

We would rather leave a budget empty than recommend a weak or poorly supported PC. These are price ceilings, not invitations to spend more.

Before choosing a tower

How much should a budget gaming PC cost?

Start with the total you can spend, then subtract anything you still need: a monitor, keyboard, mouse, tax, shipping, and an immediate memory or storage upgrade. The $800, $1,200 and $1,500 tiers here cover the tower only. They are spending limits, not measured performance promises.

Is a cheap gaming PC enough for my games?

List your three most-played games, monitor resolution, and desired frame rate. Compare tests at those settings, including slow frames and frame-time consistency where available. A result using upscaling or generated frames is not directly comparable with native rendering. We have not benchmarked this shortlist.

Should I pay extra for 32GB RAM?

Start from your games’ recommended requirements and the apps you keep open. More capacity helps when memory is limiting you; it does not automatically make a faster gaming PC. If choosing 16GB, price the compatible upgrade before checkout. System RAM and the GPU’s VRAM are separate resources. Compare 16GB versus 32GB with current upgrade costs.

Intel’s RAM selection guidance

What makes a prebuilt upgradeable?

Ask for the motherboard and power-supply models, available memory slots, spare SSD connectors, graphics-card clearance, and power connectors. A spare slot alone does not confirm compatibility. If a seller cannot identify key parts, leave the upgrade cost unresolved rather than assuming replacements will fit.

Is building cheaper than buying?

Compare complete configurations on the same day, including the operating system, delivery, and any parts you already own. Then decide what assembly time and one point of support are worth to you. Neither route wins at every price.

Compare custom-built vs prebuilt PCs

Warranty check: before ordering, save the seller’s return deadline, any restocking fees, who pays return shipping, and the separate parts and labor coverage. A recognizable brand is a starting point, not proof that a specific offer has good support.

Local-pickup option: PowerSpec G530

Check exact G530 price and local pickup availability

Micro Center lists the PowerSpec G530 (SKU 971820, manufacturer part 1000002883) at $799.99 before tax, with store pickup only. It combines a Ryzen 5 5500, Radeon RX 7600 8GB, 16GB DDR4-3200 and a 1TB NVMe SSD. Availability varies by store, so this is a local option to check rather than a nationally shippable recommendation.

Keep your budget limit

Select your store before planning a trip. The listed ASRock B550M-C R2.0 board, 650W power supply and Windows 11 Home make this a complete tower, but the exact PSU model and memory-module count remain unconfirmed. Check the one-year limited parts/labor warranty and 15-day return terms before paying. An $800 total budget will need extra room for tax and any peripherals.

Our starting filter

Within your $800 limit

  • CyberPowerPC, iBUYPOWER, PowerSpec, ABS, or Skytech
  • Radeon RX 7600, RTX 4060, or RTX 5060 class
  • 16GB upgradeable memory
  • 1TB NVMe SSD
  • Clear warranty and seller information

Buy if

An exact, supported configuration meets your games’ needs and stays within $800, including essential upgrades.

Wait if

Available offers have unclear parts or need upgrades outside your budget. Keep your current setup if it still works.

Skip if

An old office PC is dressed up with lights, the GPU is unnamed, or the seller cannot explain returns and support.

The listing showed Add to cart, sold and shipped by Newegg. Its named parts include an ASUS PRIME B760M-A AX D4 board, G.Skill Ripjaws V DDR4-3200, Patriot P400 Lite storage, GAMDIAS HELIOS 650W Gold power supply, and Cooler Master Hyper 212 Spectrum V3 cooler. Named parts help you compare configurations; we have not tested their performance, noise or reliability.

This is a separately checked 16GB machine, not the former 32GB Cyclone listing that redirects here. It uses an RTX 5060 rather than a higher-tier RTX 5060 Ti. The price rose by $200 from our October 13 check without a verified configuration change. We now recommend waiting: keep $999.99 as our buying ceiling and include any essential memory upgrade in your real budget.

The white Element EXWA7N5601 (SKU 6668973) page displayed $1,299.99 and Add to cart, sold by Best Buy, at our October 25, 2026 check. That is $200 below our October 13 observation but still $99.99 above our unchanged $1,200 ceiling. Our recommendation remains wait. Confirm delivery or pickup for your location; an outdated delivery date in the retrieved page prevents a reliable stock-timing claim. Its RTX 5060 is a different tier from an RTX 5060 Ti.

The single 16GB memory module and 8GB graphics memory are the main compromises. Budget for a compatible memory upgrade only if your workload needs it. Confirm the exact power supply, cooling, expansion space and warranty before buying; we have not verified those parts or tested this system. At this price, compare it with the higher-tier alternatives above before prioritizing retailer convenience.

The tradeoffs: a $400 higher October 25 page price than Flavonius, no increase over that configuration in system-RAM or SSD capacity, and no measured performance advantage from our own tests. More VRAM can help memory-constrained games; it does not automatically mean a higher frame rate.

Compare before spending

Flavonius vs. Cyclone: what does the extra $400 buy?

At the October 25 page check, Flavonius G1A45N46R1 was $1,199.99 and Cyclone C1A47N56T1 was $1,599.99. Both displayed Add to cart and both exceed our buying ceilings. That $400 difference changes the GPU and CPU; it does not increase system-RAM or SSD capacity.

GPU & graphics memory

RTX 5060 8GB → RTX 5060 Ti 16GB

The Cyclone has a different, higher-tier GPU as well as more VRAM. Compare independent results for your games; twice the memory is not a claim of twice the frame rate.

System memory

16GB → 16GB

Neither tower solves a 32GB requirement out of the box. The Flavonius uses DDR4; the Cyclone uses DDR5. Price the correct compatible upgrade for each.

Storage

1TB → 1TB

The premium does not buy a larger game library. Include any extra drive you need in your total.

CPU & ownership

Core i5-14400F → Core i7-14700F

Extra CPU resources may help non-gaming work. We have not measured these exact systems under sustained load; noise and cooling behavior remain open questions.

We would wait on Flavonius at $1,199.99 rather than pay $200 more for the same listed configuration. Wait on Cyclone too at $1,599.99; reconsider only if it meets the same unchanged price ceiling and a demonstrated need. Neither price guarantees a particular frame rate.

The old 32GB link now opens a different PC

Our former ABS Cyclone C1A45N56R1 listing redirects to an ABS Flavonius G1A45N46R1 with 16GB RAM. We removed the old $1,099.99 recommendation because the linked configuration is no longer the one described. Do not assume a retailer redirect preserves the parts or memory capacity.

If you need 32GB today, compare a separately verified 32GB system with the full cost of a compatible upgrade. The model number and cart specification must agree.

The complete cost

Do not buy a RAM upgrade by accident

AI-server demand is putting pressure on the memory supply chain. TrendForce’s July forecast projected Q3 conventional DRAM contract prices to rise 13–18% and NAND flash 10–15%. These are upstream forecasts, not a prediction that every retail kit or SSD will rise by the same amount.

Read the dated TrendForce forecast

Our response is to compare complete configurations. A cheap tower that needs RAM and storage immediately may cost more than a better-equipped model. Higher component prices are not a reason to panic-buy or accept an unclear seller.

Your real checkout total

Tower + tax + shipping + essential upgrades + missing monitor or peripherals

The Cyclone page displayed $1,599.99 before extras at our October 25 check, already above our buying ceiling. If 32GB is essential, price a compatible matched kit before comparing the total with another verified configuration. System RAM and graphics memory are separate: adding system RAM cannot turn an 8GB graphics card into a 16GB card.

Confirm spare drive slots, physical clearance, power connections and warranty terms before planning an upgrade. A wattage number or efficiency badge alone does not establish power-supply quality. The complete parts basket also matters when comparing a prebuilt with DIY.

How we filtered

What “reputable and great value” means here

A recognizable logo is not enough. This is a selective shortlist of documented retail offers, not an exhaustive survey of every store. ABS is a Newegg brand; an identifiable support route does not independently prove reliability.

Known support path

An established system builder plus a major retailer—not an anonymous marketplace seller.

Exact core parts

The CPU, graphics card, memory, storage, and model number must be stated clearly.

GPU-first balance

Gaming performance gets the budget before decorative cooling, extra RGB, or an oversized CPU.

Usable on day one

At least 16GB of memory and a 1TB SSD, with a practical path to future upgrades.

What our research cannot tell you yet

We have not measured frame rates, noise, temperatures, assembly quality, power-supply performance or long-term support. Retailer benchmark charts and customer star ratings are not our test results. Our buying decisions are conditional; numerical scores require our own completed testing.

Before checkout

Five checks that protect your money

01

Match every letter and number in the model/SKU—similar names can hide a different GPU.

02

Confirm the seller is the retailer or manufacturer, not an unfamiliar marketplace vendor.

03

Keep the price at or below our listed ceiling; a good PC can become a bad value overnight.

04

Photograph the box before opening and inspect the glass, GPU, cables, and cooler for shipping damage.

05

During the return window, update drivers and test several demanding games for crashes, heat, and unusual noise.

Value Over Hype rule

If the price rises, the recommendation expires. Buy the exact configuration—not just the product family name.
