What is actually available to compare?

Google introduced Googlebook on May 12, 2026. This is our September 27 buying update, not a claim that the announcement happened today. Its current U.S. shop lists preorders from $899, with devices from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo. A preorder listing is not confirmation of immediate delivery; check the selected seller’s shipping estimate.

The pitch combines Android apps, Chrome browsing, and Gemini features. Google demonstrates a contextual Magic Pointer and closer integration with Android phones. That is interesting for someone already doing most of their work in Google’s ecosystem. It is not proof that every app, accessory, or workflow you currently use will transfer unchanged.

The starting configurations

Google’s U.S. shop lists the following starting prices and configurations as checked September 27. These are manufacturer listings, not performance rankings. Taxes, delivery, availability, and regional offers may differ.

The buying checks that matter more than the AI label

Start with five tasks you cannot compromise on: your work or school software, video calls, printing, photo editing, and games. Ask whether each uses a full desktop application, a browser version, or an Android app. Similar names do not guarantee identical features. If a required workflow is uncertain, keep your current computer until you can test it.

Battery claims also need context. Google’s general page and individual model pages describe different tests and estimates. We would compare the exact model under comparable workloads rather than treating the largest advertised number as a family-wide result. We have not measured battery life, keyboard quality, fan noise, or performance.

Android integration is a selling point, but Google’s current page says setup and Android 17 or later are required for the highlighted phone features. Check your own phone before treating that convenience as part of the value.

Included subscriptions are not permanent savings

The Google AI Pro offer terms describe a 12-month trial for eligible new subscribers purchasing and activating an eligible device on or after October 1, 2026. They require a payment method and list renewal at $19.99 per month or the then-current price. Check eligibility and cancel before renewal if you do not want to pay.

We would value a bundle by what you would otherwise buy, not by adding every advertised perk together. A subscription you never wanted is not a reason to spend more on a laptop. Save the terms at checkout, especially because Google’s shop and offer page use different advertised dollar values for the AI bundle.

Our advice: shortlist it, then verify your workflow

Googlebook is worth watching if you live in the browser, use an Android phone, and want the integration. If you need a laptop immediately for a specific application, buy based on confirmed compatibility and measured results. We are not recommending a preorder solely on the AI features.

For gamers, confirm every important title and whether it runs locally or through a streaming service. Google highlights both mobile games and cloud gaming. Those are different experiences from owning a Windows gaming laptop, particularly when connectivity or subscription costs matter.
